long, black baton with silver fittings; cylindrical body made of black, lacquered wood, grip finished with a smooth, silver cylindrical fitting, decorated with an impressed ring; at 2/5 of the body, a silver ring was fitted with a framed inscription and floral motifs; the baton finishes with a sharply pointed ivory tip. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1896 with maker’s mark: JP. As per inscription, the baton was gift to R. Bareham, who at the time was a student of the RCO (Royal College of Organists in London), presented to him by his Lynton friends in June 1897
