long and massive baton made of dark wood with brass fittings; cone made of dark, French-polished wood; richly decorated grip fitting with an infula (miter), and a spear crowned with a cross (umbraculum?), as well as a twig pattern, and finished with a coraille motif (shell); plain tip fitting, finished with a small ball. The symbols, such as the infula (bishop’s hat) and what seems to be the umbraculum (a symbol of papal power used in basilicas) suggest Catholic Church background
