Black baton with fittings and bird motives; conical body made of dark, lacquered wood, with a silver fitting at the end of the grip, slightly widened, in the shape of a cone, decorated on the sides and flat top with engravings of birds in rushes (herons and small birds); at 1/3 of the body, a silver ring was fixed with an engraved inscription and an analogical bird motif; wooden tip, damaged, without fitting; hallmarked in London in 1885, silversmith’s mark: J.H.R.; as per inscription, the baton was presented in 1896 to Alfred Steel by the choir and friends of the [musical] society in Rothwell  (the abbreviation P.M. possibly stands for the Primitive Methodist Church, one of the Methodist churches).
