A conic baton with a narrowing, made of ebony and incrusted with mother of pearl and ivory, with silver fittings. Encrustation in the form of spots and crosses was typical of the manufacturer. The ebony shows visible marks of the dedication plaque. According to the Michałowski family, the baton was presented to Aleksander Michałowski by Stanisław Moniuszko, though the story has not been corroborated. Polish and international collections include several similar batons dating back to the 1880s, e.g. the Museum of Kansas holds a similar baton belonging to Charles Pence. An identical baton, dated 1892, can be found in the collection of Monika and Tadeusz Strugała (no. 81). The collection also includes a number of batons with similar decoration patterns.
