Black baton with gold fittings referring to the Oriental style; conical body made of black wood; fittings finished with lancet arches on the sides; grip and tip fittings rounded; at 1/3 of the length, a gold ring was added with two lancet arches by means of an inscription frame; all fittings are decorated with acanthus leaf engravings. Hallmarked for Chester, 9-karat gold (fineness 375) with the maker’s mark WHC in the oval ring. As per inscription, the baton was presented to J. Jones by the members of the Outing Club and Friends in recognition of his services at the Northwood Wesleyan Chapel [a Methodist chapel] in Northwood.
