the baton was presented to conductor Howard Barlow by the festival ensembles performing at the centenary of Elkhart, Indiana; the core was made of metal coated with silver; the widest section of the baton comprises a conic grip with an inscription decorated with floral engravings; behind the grip, the baton narrows down at several points, extending through the short mid-section and towards a very narrow and long rod finished with a ball; the individual sections of the core are permanently fixed to one another (they are non-extendible).
